Me, My Design Values & How I Can Help You Achieve The Results You Are After

As you may have guessed by now, my name is Kieran Parker. I am a Graphic Designer based in Bristol (UK).
Since I was little, creativity was what set me apart from my family. My brothers would be out playing games with each other whilst I was always drawing, painting and just generally making stuff. I just had an obsession with making something look better than it originally did.
As I grew older, whilst still enjoying the creative side, I also started to get interested in business. In a way, the two are connected. You create something in hopes that it will be better or outperform all your competition. Along the way, both will have challenges you have to find a solution to, both require attention to detail to really flourish and both require some creative thinking.
I apply this line of thinking to my work, it allows me to not only combine business and design for my own purposes, but it also allows me to gain perspective when working for a client with problems they want to solve.

Design Style

When it comes to design, I am a bit of a minimalist. I love clean, sleek, modern looking design. Which is a lot harder than it first appears, because there is an art in knowing when to stop, when enough is enough, when it does its job perfectly.
There is a saying I often revert to; “A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” Now, that isn’t to say my designs are always bare and minimal with plenty of white space, but it does mean that I do not believe in clutter or un-needed gimmicks. Because if a design needs these gimmicks, then the design is not achieving its goal efficiently.

My Principles

The most important thing to me when working on a new project, is that I have to like it and be excited to work on it. I have to be passionate about what I am doing to be able to get really creative with it. Equally, I like to see passion from my clients. Talking to a client and really feeling their drive to improve their company through the use of design motivates me more than any high paying client with low enthusiasm.
When meeting new clients, I like to express that they should think of me as more of a problem solver than a designer. Rather than hear what they want me to design. I first want to hear what their problem is, what they want to achieve, how they hope to grow. Too often clients approach me and say: “We need this. What will it cost?”

When really, a better approach is when they say something like: “Here’s our budget. What’s the best you can do with it?”
This small contrast in approach makes a huge difference to the quality of the final output. Because it shows an understanding in what I do and trust that I will do good work.
